Romans 4:17

That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing. Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping– believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”  (Rom 4:17-18 NLT)

  • Abraham believed that he would become the father of many nations because God had spoken it—even though his wife remained barren until 90.
  • Abraham believed God when he, by faith, took his son Isaac up Mount Moriah to sacrifice him.  He believed that God could bring the dead back to life!  That his GOD could create new things out of nothing!

Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—he never wavered in his belief in the Word of God.  In fact, his faith grew even stronger & brought much glory to God!  Abraham was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.

Question is:  Are we?

Last week, my youngest daughter was needing a little miracle.  It was not a life or death situation but a big one nevertheless.  We claimed that our GOD is a God who “keeps His promises!”

At a red light, my Mom said out loud, “GOD, we believe in you.  We believe you can create something out of nothing-so we speak to that which doesn’t exist—as if it does exist.”

Three minutes later, we got the call & our prayers had been answered!

Romans 4:17 is not about the power of our words but about our faith resting in the power of His Word.  John 1:1 says In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.  All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Jesus is the Word of God.  He is Faithful & True!  Not one of His good promises have failed; not one.  He will remain faithful, even when we are faithless, for He cannot deny Himself.

Whatever situation (big or small) you face today, do not lose heart—do not lose hope!  What GOD did for Abraham, He will do for you!  Stake claim to the promises of God and wait expectantly for Him.

In faith, hope & love,

Jill
